This Week:
The Good: Matt finally found a new job!! I can't tell you how stressful the past few months have been. Matt is in the same field as i am, so we found ourselves both in crappy jobs, and competing for the same obscure jobs in the same city. Not our finest planning. But now i am so relieved we are both in stable jobs that respect us. And no more working until midnight most nights - so yay for having dinner with Matt again!
The Bad: What is with all the non-rescue dog shaming lately? We go to the dog park by my house almost everyday (unless its raining) to let waffles run around and socialize. So naturally, we meet lots of dogs and people. Most of them are cool. I had a lady start asking me about waffles, what breed she is, where we rescued her from. I told her we got her from a breeder in Michigan. She immediately turned around and walked away, refusing to talk to me. Until later when she came back to lecture me on how i should have adopted a pitbull or a chihuahua, because the shelters are filled with them.
1. We specifically chose the breed of dog we have because it is one of the few truly hypo-allergenic dogs out there. Even all the doodle hybrids make Matt sick. If it were up to me, i would adopt ALL THE DOGS! We have been on the Basenji Rescue list for two years. TWO! They have deemed us unworthy dog owners because we both work.
2. Matt volunteers at paws twice a week, and i donate money. We DO care about those pitties and chi's.
3. We could never give a good life to a pitbull in our 800 square foot apartment. Maybe a chihuahua would be happy, but they need an owner who will give them constant attention - thats not me.
4. You're a giant bitch lady. Mind your own business and stop trying to shame those of us who got our dog in a different but still responsible way.
Why does everyone hate me so much?? |
WTF????? |
So - Good, Bad, and Ugly. We'll see if it sticks!
I'm sorry that woman was such a bitch to you. There's no excuse for that.
ReplyDeleteThat lady really had some nerve. She must be lecturing people all day, because I am sure that there are lots of people who occasionally get dogs from breeders for specific reasons (myself included). Imagine how unhappy a life it must be to be shaming strangers all day with no clue about the reasons they got a breeder dog! Anyway, your feet are looking cool, just like an Ultra-marathoner's! :-)
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should just run an ultra if my feet are already there.... :)
DeleteI really hate how judgy people get about adopting rescues, too. I also feel bad for all of the dogs who don't have homes, but I also keep the dogs that I get for their lives. (We have one from a breeder and one "rescue" who was found on a farm and we snatched her up before she made it to the shelter.) No one can know the reasons for you having your dog from just meeting you, so no one should presume to know what's best for you and your doggy family. Bottom line: that lady's a jerk. Hope your toes start to get better soon!
ReplyDeleteI've been shamed for getting our dog from a breeder versus a rescue. Everyone has their own opinions on things and it is rude to force them on anyone else. If you were vegetarian, would you go up to someone eating meat at a restaurant and shame them for what they are doing? Probably not. In the words of Michelle Tanner: HOW RUDE! People really need to mind their own business, seriously.
ReplyDeleteSadly I have seen people vegetarian-shaming and Organics-shaming. What is wrong with the world??
DeleteI think with social media's huge presence in everyday life, people feel the need to force their opinions and views onto everyone else. When are people going to realize that NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR OPINIONS! Just because you have a platform to share your info on the internet doesn't mean you get to do that to strangers on the street. RUDE!
DeleteThis is why I don't really dig the Chicago Vegan meetup group - they are all about shaming. And not just meat-eaters and vegetarians, but other vegans. Damn. People love to think they are better than everyone!
DeleteOMGoodness....I was eating and kind of puked up in my throat just now....I read that first line about eating and then scrolled down at the same time....lovely!!
ReplyDeleteHA! on ME!
I warned you!!
DeleteGlad to hear the about the settling for Matt! I imagine the rewards both in work and socially will be grand!
ReplyDeleteI'm always trying to keep an eye on my feet! I hear stories from my local running store about running with no nail, bloody nails, etc, like it was just a walk in the park.
I imagine you already have decent wickering socks or something with a non cotton blend? Are you wearing shoes/socks that let them breathe enough? Maybe you just need some extra food spa days and products from lush/Kiehls
Yay for Matt!! That must be a huge weight off your shoulders.
ReplyDeleteI am a dog rescuer through and through but, let's be honest. If you want a specific type of dog for specific reasons then chances are you're going to HAVE to go to a breeder. I do not condone backyard breeding, though, and if I ever decided to get a German Shepherd puppy you can bet I'm going to research the heck out of breeders! I don't know why people can't understand that not everyone does the exact same thing as them, though.
I am refraining from posting pictures of my one black toenail (although it's pretty spectacular). But I'm totally going to wear sandals and people can just suck it up if they think my toes are scary.
Is it gross that I totally want to see it now?
DeleteMy second toe on each foot is currently bruised because of my half this past weekend, but I wear flip flops anyway. DON'T CARE. But that lady is a bitch, and that is all.
ReplyDeleteOf course we want to hear about how things are going for you!
ReplyDeleteI am happy Matt got a new job! Not so happy this woman in the dog park is a biznatch. But like Kelly said above, people for some reason think other people give a schnit what they think. Ha. I don't get that whole pushy attitude, because it is SO FAR away from the type of person I am, but whatever.
Your foot does not even look that bad to me! :)
That lady was a huge bitch. We did a lot of research on the dogs we have as well. I think that you should because that is part of being a responsible pet parent. Our first dog we did get from a breeder, but our second dog we got lucky and were able to rescue her. The poor thing, it took her almost a year to feel 100% comfortable around us. When we got her, her little whiskers were burnt off!
ReplyDeleteUm, you should see my feet. They look the awful. The worst that they ever looked. It is sad. Probably not very many flip flops for me this summer either. Thank god Toms freaking rock.
I am so happy to hear Matt got another job. Now he can get back to blogging ;)
ReplyDeleteI am sorry about the lady at the dog park. I love labs..if I had room and a yard, would completely have one.
Ahaa, its good dialogue regarding this piece of writing at this
ReplyDeleteplace at this web site, I have read all that, so now me also
commenting here.
my web page; acoustic guitar chords for beginners
Glad to hear the hubby got a good job...I can relate!
ReplyDeleteAnd that lady is purely a sucktastic creature who has no life...offer her a martini? LOL
HA I was going to do the same thing this week with my race pics. I can share my horrible toe pic, I can no longer keep a toenail on my second toe because of a massive calloused blister. I lost it after my first marathon last year.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Matt on his job! And btw, my toes are far more gnarly than yours, so if you need some ugly pics, let me know!
