Digging deep.

I. DO. NOT. WANT. TO. RUN. TODAY.

meeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

I am sitting here, looking outside at the prefect day, trying to make up excuses as to why i can't run tonight.  When it comes down to it, I'm tired.  Like, really tired.  I have seven miles to run tonight, and then friday is a glorious, glorious rest day.  Right now though, seven miles seems damn near impossible, and i would rather go home, lay on the couch, and make Matt bring food to me.  One reason i am so tired is that i have been running alot.  Not alot for people who run, but alot for me.  I am reaching that point where i am feeling drained, and no amount of food or sleep can accommodate.

Another reason is that last night, i said screw food, screw sleep, i am going to the blackhawks game!
Front row seats, naturally.

It was a great game, WE WON IN OVERTIME!  but that also meant i was up wayyyy past my bed time.
I know every runner has to dig deep from time to time to find the motivation to start a run when they are tired, and finish a run when they are even more tired.  I try and remind myself that i am so fortunate to be able to have enough food available to me to sustain long runs, and the luxury of taking an hour of time (or more!) just for myself to go running.  and legs, i have those.  A lot of people don't have all of the above things.  So i need to shut up and be grateful and just go on my damn run.
And when all that positive thinking fails, i just imagine there is a zombie behind me.

What motivates you when you need to dig deep?

  1. Totally normal to feel drained at this point in the training! The run/life balance is always important! Gooooo Hawks!

My motivation sometimes is food related. "If I run 7 miles tomorrow, then I can totally get the medium blizzard from DQ on my way home." Food = delicious.

  2. Maybe you need an additional rest day if you are that tired? Nothing wrong with taking another day off!

  3. I was totally thinking about you when we watched the game last night! So happy they WON!

I just finished 7 miles of death. The kind where you come home after 2, wanting nothing more than to BAIL. For me, all it usually takes is remembering that there's no way I can smash these miles in anywhere else in my week. And how pissed I'll be at myself if I don't get them in...

    1. I purposefully make myself run away from my car for a certain amount of miles so that i will have NO CHOICE other than to run back to the car....it's the only way sometimes, haha

  4. If you have an iPhone you could always download the Zombies Run iPhone app and then it really would be like there were Zombies chasing you...

  6. Go Blackhawks!

Honestly, I think about the people who are going to be waiting for me at the finish line... and how I want to be ready adn strong so I can make 'em proud to be cheering me on. Silly, but it works. Knowing my bf is there waiting for me makes me run, and run quicker at that.

    1. I try to do that, but on a training run, especially when people aren't around, i start to think like, well, no one will see if i just quit and take a little nap in this grassy patch over here....

  7. I feel your pain; I'm exhausted too! I haven't ran hardly at all this week and am still feeling sluggish and exhausted. Too much work, too much toddler stress, too much life. I am actually "tapering" for the Shamrock Shuffle. I don't even do that for a half. PATHETIC!

Back to YOU....hope you recover soon!

  8. I bet besides the miles, you are tired from your week of no sleep and daylight savings. I hope your rest day today is awesome!

I just have to force myself to get out there sometimes. Like Bobbi, I know I will be upest if I don't fit it in when I am suppoed to. My weeknight schedule is kind of tight!
