What is Hot? Photo Challenge time!

Me and the heat, we have a love hate relationship.

I hate it, and it loves to follow me around like a shadow.  I think heat is a challenge we all struggle to overcome (some more so than others).  I have had a rough time this summer so far, and i have diligently tried everything you guys have recommended to beat it.  I have put ice in my bra, a la maggie, i have worn Kim's shirt cape, i have tried Charlyn's salt tabs, and i have ever resorted to trying to replicate Bobbi's infallible optimism.  But in the end, i still end up whining and pouting the entire time.  It's in my nature.  But rather than post a picture of my sweating face pouting, i decided to go a little further.

So what does "HOT" look like?
Well, thats all relative.
What's hot to me is a joke to some people (primarily, anyone in Death Valley right now.)  No matter how much ice we dump on ourselves, we are going that have a terrible time running in the heat until we  learn how to adjust our perspectives.  "Hot" Looks different to everyone, but when i see heat blurs drifting off the pavement in the horizon, i try to visualize what "even hotter" could look like.  Because you know that when its 105, that somewhere else in the world its 120.  And someone is running much faster and farther that you.  And maybe they are barefoot.  jerks.

  1. A mental trick I use is to tell myself that it will start getting colder around Labor Day (like it used to in the good old days). So when I run in the middle of the summer I think to myself, "Only 6 weeks left before it cools off..." Then I don't feel so bad.

  2. Mike likes to throw the whole 120 in Iraq thing at me sometimes. He always says that it would get to the 90's at night and he would be freezing cold in his sleeping bag. I want to ask him this though: Why the hell do you get all pissed off at me when it's 86 in our house at night and I don't want to pay the money to have the air on....that used to be cold to you...time to get acclimated to our house bitch.

  3. Hot looks like this - https://twitter.com/RunInBoise/status/223486609084006400 after 2 miles. It's gonna be 106 in Boise today. I guess I just gotta pretend I am in some "exotic" location, like Iraq or Kenya for 2 more months.

  4. Last night I was all, "WAHOO! I ran 2.5 whole mile of this 4.5 mile run at under a 10 minute pace!! LIFE IS AWESOME!" And I was chilly sitting outside eating ice cream. And today I went outside and was all, "Awww dammit it's hot again." Sigh. I hate hot.

But the optimistic side of me hopes that Chicago is 35 degrees. Screww those spectators, I want a COLD marathon! Snow? BRING. IT. ON.

  5. Thanks for the link! :) I love your take on the heat. It can always be worse, right?

I think our perspectives are getting WAY distorted though! We're like "It's only 89! I can run fast!" Nah. It still is hard. LOL!

  6. Haha, I'm with Kim, this weather is totally f-ing with my perception of what's "normal." I fully expect anything under 90 degrees to feel chilly. And then it doesn't and I'm like, yup, still summer.
