I am going to do my first trail marathon in 2013!
The North Country Run is a full marathon, half marathon, and 50 mile trail run in Michigan! The price is reasonable, and they won me over with their promise of veggie burgers, two beers (they know how i roll.), and a jacket with my name on it (Gingerfoxxx, obvi).
And to be honest, i love Michigan, and i love nature, so this seems like something i would enjoy, minus the whole running 26 miles in August thing. (minor details)
Most importantly, they have a finishers medal that Flava-Flav accused of being too big, and i am sucker for things like that.
Either way, I'm pumped. I like to have a race I signed up for in the distant future, out of the fear that i will finish a marathon, remember how painful it is, and then never sign up for one again. This way, i have no choice but to do it :) Is anyone else looking way too far ahead into 2013? Just me??
AWESOME!!!! I just saw something about a 2013 race this morning! It's never too early to plan ahead. I am super excited it's a trail marathon. Where do you think you will train in Chicagoland?
ReplyDeletehmmmm....training for this.....things i should probably consider. Any ideas??
DeleteYep, I'm already registered for the F^3 Lake Half Marathon in January 2103.
ReplyDeleteThats ambitious...I don't even know if i'll be alive! ;) hehe
DeleteThat all sounds very cool ....but I am a tad nervous to sign up for stuff too early after I did so a few months ago and then wrecked my hip and couldn't participate. I still got my t-shirt and glass (aka beer mug...yea that's how I roll too) but I was out the $65. (I know not too much and I did get my beer glass but still I wanted to run to really earn the stuff)
ReplyDeletedonations are good too I guess.
I am too, but at the same time, it's only $75 (which is still a lot) but its better than those big fancy $200 marathons, which you are STILL signing up for 8-9 months in advance!
DeleteAwesome signing up for a trail marathon!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I love the shorter trail runs, so we will see how this goes!
Deleteway to pull the trigger in advance, Sara.....nice commitment! You're going to have a great time.....and probably put up a great time as well!
ReplyDeleteSo neat!! I looked into it..but it says registration isn't open yet for 2013??
ReplyDeleteThey're having a special through twitter!

Now that I'm actually looking at the details ... I TOTALLY WANT TO DO THIS! But I feel that way about 99% of the races I look up online ... but this time I mean it! At least, I mean it right now ...
DeleteSounds like a cool race. Did not know that forest even existed (had to google the location). Looks like it should be mostly in the shade!
ReplyDeletehmmm. wasn't going to do a marathon in 2013, but a TRAIL marathon...hmmm....
ReplyDeleteAll i'm saying is, everyone's doing it.
Delete2 beers and big bling? I so wanna do that race!
ReplyDeleteOh man I love that part of michigan! Very tempted ... maybe just for the half ...
ReplyDeleteDAMN YOU. I registered for the half. I remember seeing this race a couple months ago (when it was already sold out for 2012) and thinking it looked awesome. Couldn't pass up a singlet, shirt, shorts, jacket, visor, giant medal, burger, beer AND the race for $65. Oh and the "forced" vacation I'll have to take.
Deletehahaha, i LOVE this, see you there!
DeleteI so want to do this race! But not having a car makes it difficult to just sign up...and makes it so much more expensive. I'll have to convince my friend Mary to do it...then I'll hitch a ride with her.
ReplyDeleteNow that i have somehow persuaded a bunch of people to go, i am sure it would be easy to find a ride! :D
DeleteAdd me to the list...hopefully Mary will do it! And her boyfriend...if not, I'll make you give me a ride because you had to go posting about it.
DeleteThough really, seeing Maggie post about getting the singlet, shirt, shorts, jacket, etc etc sealed the deal.
They liked me on facebook...I was hoping they'd throw a free entry at me too while they were at it. It really does sound like an awesome race!
ReplyDeleteAlso I wish it wasn't 8 hours from me!
Deletevacation!!!
DeleteContemplating but I need to figure out if Mike has off that weekend....I have a friend that WILL do it with me. So I wouldn't have to drive Chicago alone...
DeleteJust wanted to let you know that I was talking to her about it this morning and I was like "Did you see about that North Country race?" She was like "Yeah somewhere I saw it on a blog...I think GingerFoxx?" I was like "OMG! ME too!" And then we busted out laughing at the very same second because of the Flava Flave reference. Thank you...A laugh during a long run is wonderful.
HAHAHAHA! That is so awesome :D
DeleteWait...they didn't like me on facebook. They started following me on Twitter. I am not drunk but I did have one drink.
ReplyDeletewelcome to my life!
DeleteSuper cool! I would sign up for the two beers and a jacket with my name on it too! It sounds like a good time to me :-)
ReplyDeletehow cool, did sign up for the Ultra? ;)
ReplyDeleteNo, but i totally thought about it. For like 15 seconds, haha.
DeleteOh my word!! I just went to the race website because I am snoopy like that and that medal is INSANE. I WANT ONE TOO!!!!! Wowza, Flava Flav should be jealous. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI know!!!! it's so comically oversized, i had to have it the second i saw it!
DeleteWe are constantly planning ahead, and I have to say this one sounds interesting...I might have to investigate. They would get me with the veggie burgers and beers, too. I'll have to see what our fall holds, though. There are two HUGE race trips we've talked about over the years, that were slotted for 2013. I need to see if they materialize. :) Have fun with it, though!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds AMAZING! I bet it would be even more amazing if Flava Flav was actually there. YEAH BOOOYYYYYY!
ReplyDeleteVeggie burgers!? What whatttt that would win me over, too! Can't wait to hear about it!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an awesome race! I can't pull the trigger on stuff that far in advance anymore- especially after my hip flexor explosion earlier this year 2 weeks before my marathon. Good luck to you! And please do a post about where you're training on trails near Chicago. I'd love to get off the crowded path for some trails sometime :)
