I tried to make my stupid legs run, and they said no, no no.

Despite my impromtu rest day on Tuesday, my legs are super tired this morning, and i just could not force them to run.  My knee said something to the effect of "creeeeaaaaaaakkkkkkk" So i was like whatever.  I have run less miles this week than i should have, but i feel like they were all quality miles, so i am not going to push myself to run in pain, or hate myself for not running this morning.  Maybe i will go for a nice long walk tonight with the pup to shake everything out.

Last night I met up with my friend Keren at the North Brach Trail, because she is suffering the same commuter woes as myself and wanted to check out the suburban running scene. (there isn't one.)  The one downside to the run was how fickle the weather was being.  By the time we hit the trail, the windchill was about 30, and MAN was it windy.  I had no choice but to put on every article of clothing i had brought with me - capris, shorts, and compression socks for the win.  When Keren saw how stupid i looked, she was nice enough to also put on compression socks, so at least i wouldn't be alone in my specialness.
Survival Mode.
Keren was smart enough to bring gloves, but i was not, so i resorted to wearing socks on my hands for the first half of the run.
I also took a shot of our cars together, because we drive the same car, and both love our cars like they were family.  Maybe it's because i see my car more than Matt?  who knows.

Anywhos, it was a fun run, and definitely pushed me to run faster than i normally would have, which is always a good thing.

Also, The "Fails at Healthy Living Girl" meme is now live.  So, if at any point you falter in your attempt to live a healthy lifestyle "Sara-style"  feel free to go HERE and make a meme image about it!!
Fails at Healthy Living Girl is the new success kid.  Just saying.
And Lastly, as an attempt to educate all of us, i will be trying out "fun fact fridays."  Todays fun fact is about Boston Marathon, because it's a week away.  Many of us are familiar with Katherine Switzer, i'm sure.  She registered for 1967 Boston Marathon using only her initials, because naturally, women can't run marathons.  They physically tried to remove her from the course, and she still finished with a 4:30!
Fun fact: she did all this wearing a cotton sweat suit.  A key detail that makes her that much more of a badass.  Alot of us you might go on to someday run the Boston Marathon, but who among us will be doing it in a sweat suit??  Exactly.  You are awesome, Katherine Switzer.  Also, thanks for that whole making a huge impact in women's distance running thing.

There is actually a suburban running scene way up north where I live! We have a shit-ton of trails in Lake County. I think that is still pretty far from you though ;)

I am so sick of running in the wind. It makes me want to cry.

Hope your legs feel better :)

    1. i would LOVE to meet her! My non-runner mom just learned about her, and was baffled that there was a time women couldn't run marathons.

Katherine S is the bomb and total badass. Plus she's my FB friend.
It has to be under 23 degrees for me to wear gloves. I sweat like a hog.

  7. It is colder here in Chicago than in New Orleans. I wish I was still on vacation. First world problem.

    Three cheers for Katherine Switzer!!!
