If there was ever a picture that captured my nature as a runner, it is this one. I had over indulged in whiskey shots the night before, but i still woke up and ran the Palos Hills route with Eric (7.5 hilly miles) And as a bonus, it was about 90 degrees by the time we finished, so i had a lovely whiskey sweat thing going on. It wasn't pretty, but at least i was out there. (even if i was lying in the grass whimpering like a giant baby)
I am pumped for the CARA 10-miler, primarily because it is basically a 10 mile party. Check it out here if you don't believe me. My main concern is that the weekend of this race, it will be three weeks until my very first marathon. Translation= I should be running a 20-miler that day. OUCH. I guess it works out well, because i get 10 miles to myself, and then i have 10 more with race support that will mimic what it will actually be like during my race. My goal pace for the marathon is between a 9:45 - 10:00 (all of this is subjective, because for all i know, i will get out there and realize that marathons suck.) So it will definitely be sad to watch all my friends blow by me at the 10-miler. There's a good chance that i might actually be the last one to cross the finish line, but as long as someone saves at least one beer for me, i think it will be ok.
In other news, with my first marathon only a month away (eep!) I am on a mission to rehab my diet. I need more protein and less sugar! In general, i've got the whole lunch and dinner thing down. I love to cook, and in general, we have veggie filled, primarily vegetarian meals. Breakfast is a disaster however. Other than WAY too much coffee, i find myself craving sugar in the AM.
Perhaps i am partly to blame for buying candy in bulk. (but only partly)
I really wish i could get into smoothies and protein shakes, but for the life of me, i just do not find them appetizing. During the summers i will sometimes have slimfast after an early morning run, but that stuff has just as much sugar as the yummy yummy candy.
Any ideas on quick and easy low sugar breakfast goodness? adding protein without having to add meat?? I have 40 days to become a lean mean marathoning machine that is not cracked out on sugar all the time.
