Here's the deal:
The whole reason I started running was because i got drunk and signed up for a half marathon. Not just any half marathon - the Chicago Half Marathon. I did it to raise money for Huntington's Disease. Three years ago, my Dad passed away from Huntington's Disease on Christmas morning. I'm not gonna sugar coat it - that sucked. 9 months later my cousin Tonya passed away from Huntington's disease, and this was after we already lost my Grandma and Uncle. If you aren't sure what it is, i have a whole page here explaining it. Or just wiki it - wikipedia is awesome.
I am not going to sit here and make you all feel sorry for me - you are well aware of the fact that i am awesome. But i am at risk of dying the same way, and it's not pretty. Last year we were able to get 7 runners to run the Half Marathon (or the 5k) raising about $5,000 dollars. Which is AWESOME. However, in the grand scheme of things, its not that much. In order to keep the program going, i need to recruit at least 20 runners for half or 5k, and i need to raise about $10,000. (thats only $500 per person. or only $250 if i get 40 people! or only $125 if i get 80 people!) You get the picture. This is a make it or break it moment for this awesome charity to participate in this race. And guess who is running it? Thats right, This girl.
Here is our team last year:
The only thing missing is your face.
So, in conclusion, i am asking you to join me on Sept 9th, as i lead Team hope run to victory! Also, i will beat you. Every single one of you.
Check out the race here.
PLEASE: If you are even remotely interested, email me at: HDSATeamHopeRun@gmail.com. Or feel free to leave a comment and i will hunt you down. And fellow bloggers - please, please PLEASE repost! The more runners i can recruit, the more of a chance this charity has for future races!
I will repost on Thursday!
ReplyDeleteI might be in but can't decide until the summer. Is that too late?
I am happy I read your other post. I had no idea what it was, like you said in your post. I am sorry you have lost so many family members from it :( And especially your dad. It is so hard to lose a parent young like that. My MiL unexpectedly passed a year and a half ago and we are all still coping.
You can sign up whenever you want! i just wanted to get the word out there so that if anyone is ever like "Hey Kim, i really want to run a half marathon for charity, but know how to get started - you can send 'em my way!" :D That and just getting awareness out there. Even if no one signs up, hopefully everyone will remember what huntington's disease is, at least!
DeleteI shall share!
ReplyDeleteCan I be wimpy and sign up for the 5k? I'm worried the half is too close to the marathon...
DeleteAnd yes, I did just reply to my own comment.
Thanks Kelsey! and you can sign up for either, we would be glad to have you! And its not like i wont see your face all summer anyway.... :D
DeleteHi! I clicked through from Kim's blog, and am planning to e-mail you. I'm interested! I also have Huntington's in my family - not biologically, but my mother's sister's husband had it and so do two of my cousins. It is a truly terrible disease and I agree that awareness is important.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that! but it would be amazing to have you join our team! Email me whenever you get the chance! :)
DeleteHeard it and will re-post! I'd prefer to decide later on in the summer, but am happy to support in any way I can! Esp if you have bar night fundraisers in Chicago!
ReplyDeletethank you SO much! most people aren't even thinking about september yet, but thats why i'm getting the word out now! (and yes, bar fundraisers are my number one priority!!) :)
