It begins.
In a drunken haze, i had signed up for the Rockford marathon, which is May 20th. I know have to come to terms with the fact that i did that, and start training.

I'd like to think that i could push myself to train for this baby on my own, but when it comes down to it, i just don't want to. I like running by myself, but 3 hours of running by myself, especially in the cold seems like a nightmare. Thats why i decided to suck it up and join a training program for my first marathon. I am doing the CARA (Chicago area runners association) winter marathon training program. Basically i am paying people to run with me on the weekends (totally an exaggeration, i think i will benefit greatly from being around experienced marathon runners). Our first official run is this weekend, but i would like to get in at least 9 miles this week leading up to that. They also offer speed training, which lord knows i need.
I went to pick up my packet of instructions and other things last night at goose island. I was slightly intimidated because these people are hardcore runners. They all showed up ready to run, like a drifit army, and i was wearing my work clothes. I have a feeling the next 18 weeks are going to be on the brutal side.
Ooooh I'm curious to see how the CARA training goes because I'm planning to train for Chicago with a CARA group. However, from what I understand, a lot of the folks that train at my local CARA site (south suburbs) in the summer also run from my local running store on Monday nights so I think I've already met some of them including the site leader. Anyway ... GOOD LUCK!
ReplyDeleteSO jeal your doing the CARA program. Also jeal of your willingness to run outside in the cold.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I will keep everyone posted on the ups and downs of trying to follow a training program! :)
